Mental health professionals must be the first eyes on children who could be a danger to themselves or others; mental health professionals must also provide counseling and/or therapy to school children in order to address a wide variety of everyday emotional and behavioral disorders such as bullying, abuse, eating disorders, self-harm, addictions, and other issues. The mental health of children K-12, and treatment of symptoms of poor mental health, should be made a high priority in the seamless integration of services from the school and community.

Read the text of Senate Bill 195, which is co-sponsored by Senator Al Franken. The bill would amend the Public Health Service Act to provide children’s access to comprehensive mental health programs at school.
