MIT experiments w/no or low-cost online courses. In which case, what students who pay the regular tuition for in-person campus experiences are paying for 1) serendipitous access to their peers/lifelong friendships/future business partners, 2) potential for mentorship from professors, which can be life-altering, 3) campus resources like extracurriculars & internships, 4) the career placement center. Valuable, but how valuable? Hard to quantify, especially when it comes to tuition. But I wouldn’t mistake access to free or low-cost college course material for the actual experience of being in college.
