BREAKING NEWS: Pearson errors on gifted and talented screening tests for NYS students mean that too few qualified students were identified.

@GothamSchools reports:

From Pearson re @nycschools G&T exams: “We are very sorry to report that errors at Pearson occurred …” Feel like we’ve heard this before

— GothamSchools (@gothamschools) April 19, 2013

Pearson on G&T score screwup: “It is clear that we had a breakdown in our processes & we are conducting a complete, extensive investigation”

— GothamSchools (@gothamschools) April 19, 2013

Due to #Pearson error, 1000s of NYC kids who took G&T exam were told they didn’t pass when they did. #Fridayafternoonnews #majormistake

— GothamSchools (@gothamschools) April 19, 2013

So those numbers from two weeks ago about smaller # of kids getting into G&T? Totally bunk. What they said: ow.ly/keVJU

Via @LindseyChrist Education Reporter at NY1 News:

After major scoring screw-up – Pearson: “We extend our deepest apologies to the NYC Department of Education” (NYC DOE is a big client…)

— Lindsey Christ (@LindseyChrist) April 19, 2013

Via Lisa Fleisher’s (WSJ) Twitter feed, H/T to @WAGPOPS:

Pearson PLC said it made 3 errors on NYC’s G&T tests: on students’ ages, on scale scores & the formula used to create the overall percentile

BIG Friday afternoon news dump from @nycschools about massive errors on Gifted & Talented scoring. No kids are kicked out, more let in

Walcott on Pearson exec’s apology: “While I appreciate his apology, it is unacceptable that these mistakes occurred in the first place.”

— Lisa Fleisher (@lisafleisher) April 19, 2013

As for the consequences of a major failure of accuracy and accountability by Pearson, what can New Yorkers expect?

@GothamSchools:

Walcott on Pearson’s G&T screwup: “I have told the company’s officials in no uncertain terms that I expect this will never happen again.”
