3 different scenarios: 1) NBC promotes its GLEE-like show in conjunction w/sponsorship of musical theater programs in just a few public schools. 2) NBC donates money to specific schools to make musical theater programs happen. 3) NBC’s parent corporation pays all taxes it’s responsible for that fund education and by extension, “funds” musical theater programs and whatever else ALL schools want or need. Which one is an aggressive form of philanthropy that’s barely disguised marketing, and which one is the sign of a healthy democracy in which a well-supported public infrastructure enables people to decide how to use public funds?
